An able parliamentarian and minister of state for External affairs, E. Ahamed has a good understanding of international politics and is currently in charge of the West Asia desk at the external affairs ministry. During his long tenure of active participation in the Parliament, he has earned wide reputation and respect.

A member of the Indian Union Muslim League, Ahamed was elected to the Lok Sabha for the fifth time from Ponnani in Kerala. He has represented India in the UN General Assembly seven times. A dedicated social worker, Mr. Ahamed is acclaimed to be a champion of minority rights and has strongly opposed terrorism. Having shown the courage to visit the terror-struck areas in search of peace, many-a-time has he moved the parliament with his heart rendering speech about the suffering millions he had witnessed.

At an election where the Kerala polls was taken over by anti UDF drive, Ahamed was the only UDF candidate, who could win the hearts of his people, and that too, by an overwhelming majority of over 100,000 votes. This has not only proven the unstinting loyalty that his people have for him but also won him a position in the Union Ministry. This is a historical post given to him. His opponents attacked this with great fervor and enthusiasm, only to be wooed by his ardent supporters and won him even more accolades from the masses.

At the national level, his law school credentials and his eloquence and commitment has established Mr. Ahamed himself as a veteran politician and colleague among the senior members of the Union Government.

He is deeply concerned about the welfare of the four million overseas Indians and has strategically improved the working conditions of the common man. He is immensely popular among the non resident Indians, who look up to him for help and support. His turn as MOS External affairs has helped him reach wider acclaim and praise from his seniors and the media alike whether it is for the marvelous handling of the Iraqi hostage crisis or his tit-for-tat and hilarious replies in the houses of parliament.
